We are not a factory. We are a family in a small village, picking our own olives once a year and sharing the oil with the people who come to collect it.
Dear friends, since 1974 our family has made olive oil in Akrounta. Each year there is only one harvest, so we keep it small and do it properly. Thank you for keeping our oil on your table.
— the Assiotis family
The name comes from the Greek for “edge”: the village sits on the edge of the valley carved by the Amathus River, about 5 km north of Germasogeia.
Medieval records from 1236–1247 already name the village “Akrounda”.
The folklorist Nearchos Clerides counted Akrounta among the oldest villages in Cyprus.
One of the first villages in Cyprus to reorganise its farmland, four years before our first oil.
